We were thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the Wisconsin Cheesemakers’ Association to capture the events at the World Championship Cheese Contest. A team of top judges from around the world tasted cheeses from over 100 different categories over a 2 day period, followed by the selection of the “sweet 16″ cheeses that face off in the final round of judging. This year a cheese from Wisconsin took first place – the first time a U.S. made cheese has won since 1988! The blue ribbon winner was Roth Grand Cru Surchoix, which is a smear-ripened hard cheese made in Monroe, WI.
In addition to learning about the detailed process by which cheese is judged, we were lucky to work with a group of extremely kind, welcoming people who make up the cheesemaker community.
